CARIVA with Siriraj to empower young generation with HealthTech and AI expertise

Cariva (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a leader in health information network technology, joined hands with the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, and the Siriraj Medical Student Club to launch Siriraj Hackathon 2022. Under this partnership, the company set to bring knowledge and expertise in HealthTech, AI and other health knowledge to collaborate with Siriraj Medical School while providing mentorship to participants in the hackathon adding potential to students and encouraging them to continue their lifelong medical learning. 

Narongchai Limpiyapirom Co-founder of Cariva (Thailand) Co., Ltd. said, “The Siriraj Hackathon project organized by the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital aims to encourage medical students and students from other faculties as well as high school students who are interested in medical technology to join together to brainstorm and generate new innovative ideas around these health topics – aging society, post-pandemic & preventive care, emergency conditions – which can be further developed for the benefits of our country.” 

“Participants will be given the opportunity to present their ideas in front of a panel of experts from various fields including medical, technology, and business. Cariva not only joins the activity as mentor but also a part of the judges.

The winner will receive a royal trophy bestowed by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn with prize money of 50,000 baht. In addition, the team with outstanding idea will be given the opportunity to develop their skill and their work. They can become business alliance with Siriraj and Cariva to develop their project into reality which will benefit our country in the future.” 

“Cariva and Siriraj have a similar vision that health innovation should not only be created by medical personnel. Through this collaboration with Siriraj, we sincerely hope to bring knowledge and expertise to combine with medical data in order to develop innovations and create a health ecosystem that pushes forward HealthTech in Thailand to grow to international level. What Cariva is expecting is that we want to help drive and propel the medical industry forward.

We also want to see business opportunities that will arise between Siriraj Hospital and other organizations from both public and private sectors as well as opportunities to expand business with various players in medical and health sectors including pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and health & wellness centers etc.” 

There were 148 teams applied to this activity. The committee has selected 10 teams to participate in the training activity on July 23-24. Then, they presented their innovation ideas on pitching day earlier on August 2. The list of teams that have won the award are as follows: 

  • The first winner is Team MMAT team who presented home-based rehabilitation and private physical therapist powered by pose estimation AI. They received a royal trophy bestowed by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn with prize money of 50,000 baht. 
  • First runner-up is Team Charinoacetyl Ecitsloskinase who came up with a cutting-edge deep learning model to estimate vital signs using PPG, for emergency notification and monitoring health status. They were awarded prize money of 30,000 baht.  
  • Second runner-up which received a prize money of 20,000 baht was Team RAK BACK who came up with personalized LS support using data analytic and data science to help ease lower back pain. 
  • Popular Award which received a prize money of 10,000 baht was Team Chronicle who presented health platform that helped shorten patient screening process by using medical symptomatology and NLP-based AI.
