TikTok partners with BMA to amplify BKK Food Bank project

TikTok จับมือ กทม. หนุนโครงการ BKK Food Bank ดึงพลังครีเอเตอร์ สร้างการตระหนักรู้ด้านการจัดการอาหารส่วนเกิน

TikTok strengthens its partnership with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) by mobilizing TikTok Top Creators and platform communities to enhance the “BKK Food Bank” project. This collaboration aims to raise awareness and understanding of the efficient management of surplus food and goods, while encouraging people to join the campaign. Together, TikTok and BMA aim to deliver quality content in Thailand.

Chadchart Sittipunt, the Governor of Bangkok said, “BMA launched the BKK Food Bank in 2022 with primary objectives to reduce inequality in access to food and essential items, establish food security for sensitive groups, and build a more sustainable society. We aim to expand awareness across all demographic groups to create genuine social change. TikTok’s platform capabilities and community power effectively complement this project, given its multi-million user base and distinctive position as an Entertainment Platform that seamlessly integrates educational content with entertainment. The BKK Food Bank project reflects BMA’s vision of becoming a city of sharing. In the two years since inception, we have achieved remarkable results: reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 2 million kilograms, establishing Food Banks across all 50 districts, and creating a point system that empowers vulnerable groups.”

“I would like to thank TikTok and all Top Creators for their consistent cooperation with BMA, from the #ไม่เทรวม and #REactForChangeลองเปลี่ยนโลก projects, and hope we can promote a sustainable culture of mutual support,” Chadchart added.

Chanida Klyphun, Head of Public Policy – Thailand, TikTok, said “TikTok fosters positivity and creative self-expression to empower the Thai community and drive meaningful change. For the Bangkok Food Bank initiative, TikTok is the main platform, partnering with top creators to raise awareness of sustainable food management. This aligns with our Smart Environment pillar, part of our broader commitment to supporting local communities across Thailand through tangible, impactful outcomes.”

BKK Food Bank

The BKK Food Bank project, initiated by BMA, aims to address social inequality and manage food surplus. Food waste constitutes 50% of total waste, requiring over 7.3 billion baht annually for management and significantly contributing to environmental issues. Throughout the project’s duration (February 28, 2023 – November 19, 2024), it has distributed more than 3.3 million meals to over 110,000 vulnerable individuals and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 2 million kilograms of CO2. In less than two months of collaboration with TikTok (October 1 – November 19, 2024), the project has gained broader attention, distributing 1.1 million meals and reducing carbon emissions by more than 690,000 kilograms of CO2, demonstrating the true power of the platform’s community.

For the #BKKFoodBank project, TikTok has invited Top Creators from various content categories to create positive content and promote the project across different dimensions:
