The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is aggressively advancing its “Rean Dee (Good Learning)” policy to elevate students’ global competitiveness. In a major move, the BMA has partnered with Thai EdTech startup Edsy and SVOA Public Company Limited to integrate the Edsy AI Coach application—an Artificial Intelligence teaching assistant—into English classrooms across 136 BMA schools, reaching over 14,000 Grade 6 students.
The project launch was held at True Digital Park, presided over by Sanon Wangsrangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, alongside executives from the BMA Education Department, Edsy, and SVOA.
Addressing Critical English Proficiency Gaps
The BMA is focused on developing English competency across three pillars: student development, teacher development, and technology integration. Deputy Governor Sanon highlighted the urgent need for intervention, particularly in speaking and writing skills.
“Today, in classrooms with 30–40 students but only one teacher, no more than 10 students get the chance to speak, and usually they are the same children,” Sanon stated. “Thai students (upper primary level) should have all four English skills at level A1 according to the Common European Framework… but last year, only 3% of BMA students passed A1, which is a very shocking figure. The skills that are almost at zero are speaking and writing.”
The Edsy AI Coach technology is therefore seen as a crucial tool to scale up opportunities for high-quality, personalized foreign language practice.
Edsy: World-Class AI for Personalized Practice
Parith Thiengtham, Founder and CEO of Edsy, expressed his commitment, noting that “The AI Coach technology will support teachers in enhancing instruction and give students the chance to practice individually with quality.”

Edsy is a Thai startup founded by researchers from the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, a world-leading EdTech lab. The AI Coach application creates a personalized learning environment where students can practice speaking and sentence creation. It provides immediate, tailored feedback to correct grammar errors, adjust sentences for naturalness, and refine pronunciation accuracy.
Edsy, a recipient of the National Innovation Award 2025 and multiple international awards, is currently utilized in over 650 schools and universities across Thailand and is expanding into markets like Japan, Korea, and Turkey.
Scaling Up After Successful Pilot: Significant Student Progress
This extensive rollout follows a successful pilot project conducted in six BMA schools last year. Assessment results from the pilot showed clear and rapid student progress: within just two months, students demonstrated improvement of 10% in fluency, 14% in accuracy, and 12% in pronunciation.
Sharing their positive experience at the launch event seminar, Dr.Atiporn Nilkham, Principal of Prayamonthaturadsripijit School, noted, “The children are happy and enjoy learning when AI helps them. From not knowing or being shy, they learned and became more confident.”
Narumon Kulwongnoi, a teacher at Banbangkapi School, added that learning with AI gives students “freedom of thought, and they are more willing to speak and interact.”
This project marks Phase One of the collaboration. The BMA plans to significantly expand coverage in Phase Two next school year, with the ultimate goal of implementing the AI Coach in all 437 BMA schools to ensure every Bangkok student “truly gains English proficiency,” aligning with the Governor’s vision.
