(LG) announced a\u00a0strong year with 2020 revenues of\u00a0KRW 63.26 trillion (USD 56.45<a>\u00a0<\/a>billion) and\u00a0record-setting operating profit of\u00a0KRW 3.20 trillion (USD\u00a02.85\u00a0billion), an increase of 31.1 percent over 2019,\u00a0driven primarily by higher sales of premium home appliances and OLED TVs as well as strong growth in vehicle component solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thestorythailand.com\/en\/04\/02\/2021\/13099\/\" target=\"_blank\">ManpowerGroup Thailand unveiled the latest labour market trends<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestorythailand.com\/en\/04\/02\/2021\/13014\/\">Jeff Bezos\u2019 Amazon shifts from a retailer to a tech company<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sales in the fourth quarter of KRW 18.78 trillion (USD 16.76\u00a0billion)\u00a0grew\u00a016.9 percent from the same period\u00a0of 2019\u00a0and were 11 percent higher than the previous quarter. Despite the impact of COVID-19, the quarter\u2019s operating profit\u00a0of\u00a0KRW 650.20 billion (USD 580.19<a>\u00a0<\/a>million)\u00a0increased significantly by 539 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While COVID-19 and slow economic recovery remain concerns for 2021, LG expects the global economy to normalize under the sound fiscal policies of world governments and the successful implementation of vaccinations. In 2021, core technologies such as AI, 5G, IoT<a>\u00a0<\/a>and mobility will be widely applied to various LG business areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The LG Home Appliance &amp; Air Solution Company\u00a0<\/em>ended another healthy year with record\u00a02020\u00a0revenues\u00a0of KRW 22.27 trillion (USD 19.87\u00a0billion),\u00a0an increase of 3.5 percent increase from the previous year,\u00a0and operating\u00a0profit of KRW 2.35 trillion\u00a0(USD 2.10<a> <\/a>billion), another record.\u00a0Results reflect increased sales of new appliance categories and the home appliance rental business in South Korea.\u00a0Fourth-quarter revenue\u00a0of KRW 5.54 trillion (USD 4.94<a>\u00a0<\/a>billion)\u00a0was the highest fourth quarter in the company\u2019s history, an increase of\u00a020 percent\u00a0year-on-year with double digit growth in South Korea, North America and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The LG Home Entertainment Company\u00a0<\/em>reported\u00a02020 revenues of KRW 13.18 trillion (USD 11.76\u00a0billion)\u00a0and\u00a0operating\u00a0profit of KRW\u00a0969.70 billion (USD 865.29<a>\u00a0<\/a>million),\u00a0a\u00a022.9 percent increase over the previous year.\u00a0Sales in the quarter of KRW 4.28\u00a0trillion (USD 3.82\u00a0billion)\u00a0were 7.9\u00a0percent higher than\u00a0the fourth quarter of 2019 and up 16.7\u00a0percent from the previous quarter. Quarterly operating\u00a0profit\u00a0of\u00a0KRW 204.50 billion\u00a0(USD 182.48<a>\u00a0<\/a>million) reflected increased sales in North America and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The LG Mobile Communications Company<\/em>\u00a0announced full-year 2020 revenues of KRW\u00a05.22\u00a0trillion (USD 4.66<a>\u00a0<\/a>billion). Fourth-quarter sales\u00a0of KRW 1.39\u00a0trillion (USD 1.24<a>\u00a0<\/a>billion) were 4.9 percent higher than the same quarter of 2019 but\u00a09.2 percent lower than the previous quarter\u00a0due to shortages of 4G chipsets and sluggish sales of premium smartphones\u00a0in overseas markets. The full-year operating loss\u00a0totaled\u00a0KRW\u00a0841.20 billion\u00a0(USD 750.63<a>\u00a0<\/a>million), reflecting increased marketing investments\u00a0to support flagship devices, partially offset by fixed cost reductions due to manufacturing efficiencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The LG Vehicle Component Solutions Company<\/em>\u00a0reported sales in 2020 of KRW 5.80 trillion (USD 5.18<a>\u00a0<\/a>billion),\u00a0growth of\u00a06.1 percent over 2019.\u00a0Revenues in the fourth quarter of KRW 1.91 trillion (USD 1.71<a>\u00a0<\/a>billion) were\u00a041.3 percent\u00a0higher than the same quarter\u00a0the previous year driven in large part by the recovery of demand in key automotive markets including North America and Europe and higher sales from new projects. The modest fourth-quarter operating loss of KRW 2 billion (USD 1.78<a>\u00a0<\/a>million) improved year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter due to sales increases aligned with the recovery of market demand in the second half, as well as improved cost management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The LG Business Solutions Company<\/em>\u00a0achieved 2020 revenues of KRW 6.01 trillion (USD 5.36<a>\u00a0<\/a>billion) with an operating\u00a0profit\u00a0of KRW 457.88 billion (USD 408.51<a>\u00a0<\/a>million) due to demand growth for IT products related to remote working and online learning.\u00a0Fourth-quarter sales of KRW 1.51 trillion (USD 1.35<a>\u00a0<\/a>billion) were 4.8 percent higher than the same period of 2019, while quarterly operating profit was KRW 70.30 billion (USD 62.73<a>\u00a0<\/a>million), lower than the previous year due higher prices for major components and global logistic costs. The market for information displays is expected to improve as global demand recovers while demand for IT products continues to grow.
