Google Cloud announced the launch of TalayLink, a new subsea cable system connecting Australia and Thailand. This strategic infrastructure investment is set to significantly enhance the reach, reliability, and resilience of digital connectivity across the Asia Pacific region and globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Named after the Thai word for sea, \u201ctalay,\u201d the TalayLink cable will establish a new, diverse path to Thailand via the Indian Ocean, bypassing the highly congested area west of the Sunda Strait where most existing subsea cables currently route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bikash Koley<\/strong>, VP, Google Global Infrastructure, Google Cloud, stated, \u201cThis strategic routing will further integrate our future data centers and cloud region in Thailand into our global network, ensuring seamless connectivity and supporting the rapid adoption of cloud and AI services.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thailand: A Critical Digital Gateway<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the TalayLink cable system, Google is investing in new connectivity hubs in Western Australia (Mandurah) and South Thailand. These hubs are designed to future-proof regional connectivity and accelerate the delivery of advanced digital and AI services through cable switching, content caching, and colocation capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the South Thailand hub, a critical crossroads for subsea cables, Google is partnering with colocation provider AIS to accelerate deployment and leverage existing local infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Narit Therdsteerasukdi<\/strong>, Secretary General of the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), affirmed the importance of the project: \u201cThe TalayLink cable will serve as a pivotal piece of digital infrastructure, enhancing Thailand\u2019s connectivity and resilience. Together with Google\u2019s upcoming Google Cloud region and data center in Thailand, these investments will firmly position Thailand as a critical digital gateway<\/strong> for next-generation cloud and AI innovation in Southeast Asia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pratthana Leelapanang<\/strong>, Chief Executive Officer of AIS, commented, \u201cThe combination of Google\u2019s new, diverse submarine cable path and AIS\u2019s high-reliability colocation capabilities will ensure the digital infrastructure in the region is capable of supporting the country\u2019s AI strategy<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preeyaporn Tangpaosak<\/strong>, President of ALT Telecom, also expressed the commitment of its subsidiary, International Gateway Company (IGC), to be a key partner in landing the new cable, emphasizing its role in accelerating Thailand’s digital economy development strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global Reach and Resilience<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Upon completion, TalayLink and the new connectivity hubs will strengthen network resilience across Australia, Africa, and Southeast Asia. When combined with previous Google investments in connectivity hubs in the Maldives and Christmas Island, this new infrastructure will provide onward connectivity across the Indian Ocean and extending to the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Koley concluded that the investment directly supports the Royal Thai Government\u2019s objective of economic transformation through AI and digital inclusion, underscoring Google\u2019s commitment to driving economic and social growth through resilient and reliable internet infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
