Bangkok Cable Co., Ltd. (BCC) has announced its transition from a specialized cable manufacturer to a comprehensive energy solution provider following the acquisition of ION Energy Corporation Co., Ltd. The move positions the 61-year-old company to capture a domestic solar rooftop market estimated to be worth more than 100 billion baht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The acquisition integrates ION Energy, an end-to-end solar solutions provider, as a subsidiary of the Bangkok Cable group. This strategic shift comes as Thai government tax incentives of up to 200,000 baht and global energy market volatility push solar technology toward mainstream adoption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Over the past 61 years, the company has served as a backbone for Thailand\u2019s energy system,” said Pongsapak Nakornsri, Chief Commercial Officer of BCC and Executive Chairman of ION Energy.<\/strong> “Entering our 62nd year, we have restructured our direction to become ‘More than a Cable Manufacturer’ to fully support evolving energy infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Industry data provided by the company highlights a significant gap in the Thai residential sector. Out of approximately 20 million households nationwide, an estimated 1.3 million have the potential for solar installations. However, cumulative installations currently stand at only 70,000, leaving a vast market largely untapped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ION Energy, established in 2020, has already completed over 6,500 installations, primarily through partnerships with major real estate developers including Sansiri, Supalai, SC, and AP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Peerakarn Manakit, CEO of ION Energy<\/strong>, noted that joining the Bangkok Cable group provides a distinct cost advantage. “Electrical cables are the third-largest cost component in solar systems after panels and inverters,” Manakit said. He added that the merger would facilitate regional expansion and enhance the company’s technological capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To support the long-term nature of solar investments\u2014which typically last 30 years\u2014the company is focusing on technological after-sales services. This includes the development of solar panel cleaning drones, which are scheduled to be showcased at the ASA Architect Expo 2026 in late April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Looking toward the end of 2026, the company has set the following targets:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Installation Goal: 1,500\u20132,000 new household installations.
