Thai customs seizes over 7,000 counterfeit Epson ink bottles

In a significant move against intellectual property theft, Thai Customs authorities have seized more than 7,000 counterfeit Epson ink bottles that were illegally imported into the country. The successful operation, conducted through two major seizures in June 2025, highlights a robust and ongoing collaboration aimed at protecting consumers from the risks of fraudulent products.

The seized goods were confirmed to be counterfeit and in direct violation of Seiko Epson Corporation’s registered trademarks. This success stems from a strong partnership between the company and Thai Customs, which enabled officials to take proactive measures against importers. Entire shipments suspected of containing counterfeit products were detained and subsequently inspected.

Following a thorough verification process, the fake ink bottles were permanently confiscated. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the importers, who are expected to face charges under Thai law. In a clear demonstration of Thailand’s zero-tolerance policy towards counterfeit goods, all seized items are slated for destruction during the government’s annual destruction ceremony. This action underscores the nation’s commitment to safeguarding both consumer rights and legitimate businesses.

“These counterfeit ink bottles were made to resemble genuine Epson products, but they can cause harm to both printers and users,” a spokesperson from Epson Southeast Asia stated.

“Counterfeit ink may contain hazardous substances such as heavy metals and low-grade chemicals that can damage printers, produce poor print results and void product warranties. In addition to damaging consumer trust, counterfeit products undercut the work of honest Thai retailers and businesses who rely on the sale of genuine goods.”

Epson Southeast Asia strongly advises consumers in Thailand to purchase ink exclusively from authorized dealers and official online stores to ensure product authenticity. The company affirmed its dedication to working closely with Thai Customs and other law enforcement agencies to continue the fight against the proliferation of counterfeit goods in the market.
