Grab signs MoU with CPPD to support the prevention and suppression of app-related offense

Grab Thailand has signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Consumer Protection Police Division or CPPD to support the division in the investigation, prevention, and suppression of offenses that may be found in relation to the Grab application in Thailand. The cooperation also affirmed Grab’s commitment to improving safety standards in preventing and detecting illegal acts on the Grab application, which could be a threat to the public safety and Grab users.

Pol. Col. Neti Wongkularb, superintendent of the Consumer Protection Police Division, said that technology plays a significant role in the lives of people in society, especially the use of various applications for their daily life convenience. However, they have become another channel for criminals in committing unlawful acts.

In order to enhance the protection and suppression of offenses for consumers, the CPPD has been working closely with private sectors in sharing useful information for investigations in criminal cases or offenses related to the use of technology or applications.

Grab is one of the commonly-used applications that people use daily for services such as ride-hailing or food and parcel delivery. The large database of both users and drivers will be beneficial for further investigations and tracking  the suspect.

” Our collaborative efforts with Grab Thailand marked an important milestone in deploying technology to enhance safety standards and maintain peace in the society. The CPPD will also consider further cooperation in other areas in the future,” said Pol. Col. Neti.

Dr. Kengkran Louvirojanakul, Head of Public Affairs, Grab Thailand added that Grab places the safety of users and people in society as our top business priority, as we continue to develop the technology for security and maintain the safety standards of all services strictly to build and enhance the confidence for all.

For instance, through a thorough screening check of driver-partners with a criminal background check for at least 7 years, together with the cooperation with public sectors, especially the agencies under the Royal Thai Police, to promote and support the protection against various criminal acts that may occur in society through the training provided for driver-partners to enhance safe driving and build up their surveillance skill for suspicious objects.

“Our collaboration with the CPPD is another crucial role for us as a platform provider, in developing and becoming a part of the protection against cybercrimes as well as uplifting the safety standards for all consumers and people in society proactively,” said Dr. Kengkran.
