DHL launches 100% renewable energy warehouse in Thailand

DHL Supply Chain Thailand has officially inaugurated the Bangna Sustainable Logistics Center, a pioneering facility that marks the company’s first warehouse globally to operate entirely on 100% renewable energy generated from on-site solar systems. Representing a THB 1.39 billion (€35 million) investment, the center sets a new sustainability standard for the company’s future operations.

This landmark facility directly supports the new fourth pillar of DHL Group’s Strategy 2030: Green Logistics of Choice—a commitment to becoming the premier provider of sustainable logistics solutions.

On-Site Solar Power and Smart Storage

The Bangna Sustainable Logistics Center operates fully on locally generated renewable power, eliminating reliance on external non-renewable sources. Key sustainability features include:

  • Solar Power System: A comprehensive 4.2 MWP solar panel array covering 24,000 square meters.
  • Battery Storage: An advanced 10 MWh battery storage capacity to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
  • Smart Energy Management: An integrated system for optimized power consumption.

The facility also incorporates high-efficiency cooling, natural roof skylights, low-water-use appliances, and exclusively uses lithium-ion battery material handling equipment to minimize its environmental footprint.

A Tangible Step Towards Net-Zero by 2050

Hendrik Venter, CEO of DHL Supply Chain, stated that the facility is a tangible step toward the company’s goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

“As DHL Supply Chain’s first fully renewable energy warehouse globally, powered by onsite solar systems here in Thailand, it reinforces our aspiration to be the Green Logistics of Choice,” Venter said. “Through our GoGreen Plus service offering, we enable our customers to decarbonize their supply chains and track measurable progress toward their own sustainability goals.”

The center is designed to deliver real benefits to customers, particularly those in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Automotive, Technology, Engineering, and Manufacturing sectors. All core warehouse operations are powered by the on-site renewable energy, and customers benefit from supplementary services like Electric Vehicle (EV) transport and guidance from DHL’s Certified GoGreen Specialists.

Strengthening Thailand’s Role as ASEAN’s Logistics Hub

Javier Bilbao, CEO, DHL Supply Chain Asia Pacific, noted that the new facility reflects Thailand’s strength as a dynamic trade hub with modern infrastructure and supportive renewable energy policies.

Steve Walker, CEO, DHL Supply Chain Thailand Cluster, added that the center strengthens Thailand’s role as ASEAN’s logistics hub, proving that “environmental stewardship can go hand in hand with operational excellence.” The facility’s design, including a Free Trade Zone status, offers businesses streamlined customs, duty exemptions, and reduced operational costs.

Strategically located on Bangna-Trad KM 20, near Suvarnabhumi Airport and Bangkok Port, the 45,000-square-meter facility features high ceilings and both ambient and temperature-controlled zones, ensuring optimal storage and service quality. The facility aligns seamlessly with the Thai government’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
