CK Power Public Company Limited (CKPower or CKP), a regional leader in renewable energy with one of the lowest carbon footprints, has been honored with two prestigious accolades at the Thailand-Japan Decarbonization Award (TJDA) 2026. The company received the Golden Award for its waste and wastewater management project at the Bangpa-in Cogeneration Power Plant and the Silver Award for its “Waste to Value” initiative at the Xayaburi Hydroelectric Power Plant. Organized by the Technology Promotion Association (Thailand-Japan) (TPA), the awards recognize excellence in utilizing technology to achieve tangible greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions.
Thanawat Trivisvavet, Managing Director of CKPower, emphasized the company’s commitment to long-term operational excellence through the application of advanced environmental and energy management technologies. A key pillar of this strategy is the cultivation of an “innovation-driven culture,” encouraging employees to become active “innovators” in developing practical GHG reduction solutions. These efforts aim to optimize resource utilization while strengthening regional energy security and delivering long-term value to all stakeholders.
Award-Winning Projects: Efficiency and Value Creation
The TJDA recognized two specific initiatives that demonstrate CKPower’s technical and social impact:
- Waste and Wastewater Management (Golden Award): This project at the Bangpa-in Cogeneration Power Plant optimizes water and lubricating oil usage. By enhancing cooling tower efficiency through chemical control adjustments, the plant has:
- Reduced water consumption by over 743 million liters.
- Achieved cost savings of more than THB 19.5 million.
- Cut lubricating oil usage by over 28,000 liters, saving an additional THB 2.6 million.
- Prevented approximately 95,000 kg CO₂e in greenhouse gas emissions.
- Waste to Value – Hinghoi (Silver Award): Located at the Xayaburi Hydroelectric Power Plant, this initiative transforms food waste into soil conditioners. The project has:
- Produced 2,665 kilograms of soil improver annually for local distribution.
- Reduced carbon emissions from waste burning by over 3,840 kg CO₂e.
- Lowered local community fertilizer expenses by more than THB 72,900 per year.
Path Toward Net Zero 2050
These achievements align with CKPower’s strategic roadmap to reach Net-Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. By promoting environmental stewardship across the entire value chain, the company continues to prove its capabilities in large-scale sustainable power production.
Currently, CKPower operates 18 power plants with a total installed capacity of 3,640 MW. Its portfolio includes:
- Hydroelectric: Nam Ngum 2, Xayaburi, and the Luang Prabang project.
- Cogeneration: Two plants at Bangpa-in.
- Solar: 13 plants across Thailand.
