The Shell Company of Thailand Limited recently hosted the ‘Imagine the Future Scenarios Competition (ITF)’ Competition to support university students in stretching their imagination of future scenarios, with this year’s topic: ‘More and cleaner energy in Asia Pacific and Middle East cities in 2050: How will residents live, work, and play?’ ‘Double Powerpuffs’ team won the national competition and represented Thailand in the Asia Pacific & Middle East Regional round before winning the 2nd prize in the regional competition.
Panun Prachuabmoh, Country Chairman of The Shell Company of Thailand Ltd., said: “I am pleased to congratulate the ‘Double Powerpuffs’ team for winning the first prize at the national competition and the 2nd prize out of three teams in the regional competition. Shell has organized the Imagine the Future Scenarios Competition for six consecutive years to provide opportunities for the new generations to expand their knowledge to imagine a future world and simulate what might happen in actual cities, as well as suggesting solutions that can solve the problems – especially for clean energy transition – in line with Shell’s commitment under the ‘Powering Progress’ strategy to achieve net zero emission target by 2050.
We believe that the other four national finalist teams as well as the regional first runner up team from Thailand have gained invaluable experience during the competition, while exchanging ideas and knowledge, working together with Shell’s volunteer mentors, and getting feedback from the panel of judges. This will also inspire Thai youth to sharpen their knowledge and abilities to develop other national and international projects in the future.”
The Imagine the Future Scenarios Competition in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East region began in 2016 as a platform for younger generations to practice their skills in imagining future city scenarios by using Shell Scenarios, developed by Shell for more than 50 years and utilized in many sectors.
For the final national round this year, the five finalists presented their projects and answered questions from the judging panel: Ignatius Lim, APAC Corporate Relations International Senior Adviser, Shell Singapore; Kamon Kongsakulvatanasook, Managing Director – Shell Property Development J.V., The Shell Company of Thailand Limited; and Dr. Non Arkaraprasertkul, Senior Expert of the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA).
‘Double Powerpuffs’ team, the winner of the national Imagine the Future Scenarios Competition 2022 and first runner up in the online Asia Pacific & Middle East Regional round (against representatives from Singapore and Egypt) comprised six students from Thammasat University, Assumption University, and the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce. They presented an imagined future of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, under the concept of ‘A Whole New Look for Ho Chi Minh City in 2050’.
