KBank, EGAT and KBTG team up to create an energy exchange platform called “Punfai”

In an effort to promote a sustainable society, KBank, EGAT, and KBTG have teamed up to create an energy exchange platform called “Punfai”. The platform will be launched on a trial basis in the third quarter of 2023.

In a bid to promote sustainability and help Thailand reach its net-zero targets, the Electricity Generation Authority of Thailand (EGAT), KASIKORNBANK (KBank), and KASIKORN Business-Technology Group (KBTG) have collaborated to develop “Punfai,” Thailand’s first all-in-one energy exchange platform for households and businesses.

The platform boasts a range of features, including a smart assistant to manage surplus energy, a menu for sending energy to others, and a dashboard to show energy savings.

The app will also be linked to financial innovations for broader coverage. Through this initiative, the three organizations hope to encourage Thai people to adopt green energy practices.

By sharing surplus energy, solar cell owners can receive attractive returns while shortening their payback period. Additionally, the general public can access clean energy at affordable prices for home use.

The “Punfai” application will be launched on a trial basis in the third quarter of this year before expanding to the general public at a later stage.

Nutthavuttthi Chamchang, Senior Deputy Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), has announced that the collaboration with KBank and KBTG is aimed at transforming EGAT’s “EGAT Peer to Peer Energy Trading” application, developed under the “SolarPlus” project of KBank, into a more user-friendly and responsive energy exchange platform called “Punfai.”

In addition to its primary goal of generating and distributing electricity, EGAT is also focused on developing innovative solutions to meet the changing demands of users in the digital age. As part of this effort, EGAT is developing energy management applications and supporting greater access to clean energy.

KBank President, Krit Jitjang, has emphasized the bank’s commitment to promoting a green society in Thailand through its GO GREEN Together initiative, especially in the context of the adverse effects of global warming on people’s lives and business operations.

KBank has partnered with other entities to launch several projects and financial campaigns aimed at making clean energy more accessible to customers. One of KBank’s key projects is its collaboration with EGAT to develop the “Punfai” application, which will serve as a crucial component of Thailand’s green ecosystem.

Leveraging its expertise in technology and human resources, KBank is well-equipped to develop the application, which will be linked with financial innovations to meet the diverse needs of users.

According to Chetaphan Siridanupath, managing director of KLabs, the KBTG is committed to supporting the creation of a sustainable and green society. As such, the company will utilize its technological and design expertise to develop the UX/UI of the “Punfai” application, making it more user-friendly.

The application is a solar power management platform that enables users to share power surplus and receive favorable returns. It also helps reduce power bills, returns investment at a faster rate, maximizes the value of every unit of power generated, and supports the country’s policy of reducing carbon footprint.

Key features of the “Punfai” application include a smart assistant to manage surplus energy, the ability to send energy to anyone, and a dashboard to track savings. The application is currently being developed and is expected to undergo trial use in the third quarter of this year under the Energy Regulatory Commission’s regulatory sandbox for the “SolarPlus” and EGAT projects.

This collaboration will eventually lead to a comprehensive green ecosystem for all Thai people.
