Thai Union Ingredients (TUI), the marine ingredients business unit of Thai Union Group PCL, has launched its vertically integrated marine longevity portfolio at Vitafoods Asia 2026. The portfolio combines DHA oil, collagen, and bio-calcium derived from a single tuna supply pipeline. Designed to support cognitive, skin, and bone health across various life stages, the products are backed by published clinical trials and human research.
Unlike traditional longevity supplement brands that source ingredients from multiple disparate suppliers, TUI operates an integrated model spanning tuna sourcing, factories, refineries, and finished ingredients. This proprietary setup ensures end-to-end supply chain traceability and strict quality control at every stage of production.
Meeting Demands of Asia-Pacific’s Demographic Shift and Cross-Generational Interest
The portfolio launch coincides with a major demographic shift across the Asia-Pacific region. According to the United Nations Population Fund, the population aged 60 and older in the region is projected to triple between 2010 and 2050, reaching nearly 1.3 billion—representing one in four people. Meanwhile, consumer interest in longevity spans across generations. A 2025 McKinsey survey showed that up to 60% of consumers consider healthy aging a top priority, with younger demographics actively adopting proactive health habits.
Leena Uabumrungjit, Senior Director of Ingredients at Thai Union Group, highlighted that while the market features suppliers offering isolated ingredients, TUI provides a one-stop marine platform built on a fully controlled tuna supply chain. Combined with research conducted alongside leading universities, the platform offers business partners verified traceability, scientific validation, and multiple health solutions from a single origin.
Three Science-Backed Tuna Ingredients for Cognition, Skin, and Bone Health
The longevity portfolio highlights three core ingredients supported by published scientific studies:
- UniQ®OMEGA: A refined tuna DHA oil supporting cognitive performance. A 2025 human trial published in Antioxidants demonstrated a 42% increase in attention span and a 33% improvement in working memory.
- ThalaCol™: A tuna collagen peptide designed to reinforce skin structure. A 2024 clinical trial published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology showed that a 5-gram daily dose increased skin hydration by 68%, density by 26%, and elasticity by 16%.
- UniQ®BONE: A tuna bio-calcium providing calcium and phosphorus in a 2:1 natural hydroxyapatite ratio—matching the structure of human bones and teeth. A 2017 animal study published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture recorded a 39% improvement in bone microstructure.
All three ingredients are manufactured from tuna co-products—specifically the head, skin, and bones—which are typically unutilized in conventional food processing. TUI converts these raw materials into high-value ingredients at specialized facilities, including an oil refinery in Germany, a collagen plant in Samut Sakhon, Thailand, and a bone powder plant in southern Thailand.
Financial Growth Targets and Alignment with SeaChange® 2030
Thai Union Ingredients has outlined clear financial objectives for the portfolio, targeting at least USD 30 million in revenue from ThalaCol™ within five years, along with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) exceeding 50% for premium Omega-3 sales by 2030. These ingredients are suited for applications in infant nutrition, dietary supplements, functional foods, and pet health. Furthermore, upcycling tuna processing co-products directly aligns with Thai Union’s SeaChange® 2030 sustainability strategy and its goal to lead the global marine health and nutrition market.
