Salary Hero, a Southeast Asian financial health platform, announced it has raised US$7.6 million in Series A equity funding led by Cento Ventures, with participation from Kairous Capital and M Venture Partners. Alongside the equity round, the company expanded its credit facility with regional lenders to US$10 million to support its on-demand pay operations and mark its official entry into Malaysia.
Prabhav Rakhra, Co-founder and Managing Director of Salary Hero, stated: “We started Salary Hero because the financial system in Southeast Asia is broken for the people who can least afford it. A factory worker in Thailand shouldn’t have to pay over 20% a month to cover a mid-month gap. We’ve proven in Thailand that there’s a better model: one that’s fairer for workers and commercially compelling for employers. Malaysia is the next step.”
Fair Pay Access and Workplace Integration
Salary Hero provides employees with on-demand access to earned wages, offering an alternative to informal lenders charging high interest rates. The platform also includes over 50 financial education classes, budgeting tools, and financial health products. For employers, Salary Hero integrates directly with existing HR and payroll systems via partners across 25 enterprise HR networks and maintains ISO 27001 information security certification. Companies using the platform across manufacturing, logistics, hospitality, and retail have reported a 15–25% reduction in frontline worker turnover.
Traction in Thailand and Predictive AI Features
In Thailand, Salary Hero reaches over 300,000 employees across more than 100 companies, helping workers avoid an estimated US$150 million in high-interest informal loans.
Ali Fancy, partner at Cento Ventures, noted: “Salary Hero sits at an intersection we know well: a financial product embedded into an operational workflow, solving a problem that traditional institutions have ignored. Before venture capital, I spent over a decade running factories in Thailand and saw first-hand what a mid-month cash gap does to a worker and their families. Prabhav and Jonathan have built a solution that fits naturally into the workplace, with impactful benefits to both employees and companies.”
Addressing voluntary turnover—which averages 12.9% nationwide in Thailand and 32.9% in retail according to Deloitte’s 2025 survey—Salary Hero uses anonymized partner data and AI tools to analyze turnover risk across sites, shifts, and tenure, enabling HR teams to deploy targeted retention initiatives.
Expansion into Malaysia
According to Bank Negara Malaysia’s 2024 survey, 61% of Malaysians struggle to raise RM1,000 for emergencies. Salary Hero began operations in Malaysia in Q2 2026, supported by a local team and partnerships, with a target to onboard 50 corporate partners by the end of 2027.
Jonathan Nohr, Co-founder and Managing Director of Salary Hero, stated: “Malaysian workers face the same mid-month squeeze we see in Thailand, and too often the same predatory lenders and ‘Ah Longs’ waiting to exploit it. That’s exactly the problem we’ve shown we can solve, so we know we can make a real impact here. We’re also not starting from scratch: our partnership network and our existing clients across the region have a strong presence in Malaysia, which gives us a running start.”
Joseph Lee, Managing Partner at Kairous Capital, added: “We looked hard at Malaysia’s financial well-being gap and found no one solving it at scale for the workers who need financial access the most, especially the B40 households. Salary Hero has already proven this model works in Thailand, and our role is to support their expansion to bring a similar playbook into Malaysia, ensuring the entry lands fast and executes right.”
